Volleyball state playoff round two recap



Class 7A

Lambert 3, Mountain View 0 — Lambert advanced to the Elite 8 for the second straight season after sweeping Mountain View Tuesday night (25-17, 25-15, 25-13).

Sophomore Ally Hall led Lambert with 11 kills and added seven digs and two aces.

North Forsyth 3, North Gwinnett 2 — After dropping the opening two sets to the Lady Bulldogs, North Forsyth bounced back to win the final three sets and advance to the Elite 8 (17-22, 22-25, 25-19, 25-21, 15-13).

In the decisive fifth set, the Lady Raiders opened an 8-7 lead and held on for the remainder of the set to clinch the win.

South Forsyth 3, Grayson 0 — South Forsyth advanced to the Elite 8 for the sixth straight year after sweeping Grayson Tuesday night (25-17, 25-10, 25-17).

Molly Bergin had 12 kills and Nyah Pacely, Sydney Forrest and Jessica Beil all had over 10 digs.

South will have a chance to advance to the semifinals for the third straight year this Saturday.


Class 6A

Harrison 3, Chattahoochee 0 — Chattahoochee’s playoff run came to an end Tuesday as the Lady Cougars fell to defending state champions Harrison.

Chattahoochee made its first appearance in the second round since 2013.

Alpharetta 3, Allatoona 0 — Alpharetta earned its second consecutive Elite 8 berth with a sweep of Allatoona in the second round Tuesday.

Sophomore Nina Williams and senior Sterling Hines combined for 25 kills in the win. Hines also had 15 digs.

Johns Creek 3, Jonesboro 0 — Johns Creek quickly dispatched Area 4 champions Jonesboro in three sets Tuesday night to advance to the Elite 8 for the second straight season (25-7, 25-15, 25-13).

Senior Caroline Mohler compile 17 kills, two aces and three digs in the sweep.

Sequoyah 3, Centennial 2 — After just making the playoffs and then getting an upset win in the first round, Centennial’s season came to an end Tuesday night against the Lady Chiefs.

Sequoyah took the closely-contested first two sets, but the Lady Knights came back to force a decisive fifth set.

However, Centennial’s run would end as Sequoyah opened a lead and captured the victory (25-21, 28-26, 19-25, 18-25, 15-9).


Class 4A

Blessed Trinity 3, Northwest Whitfield 0 — The Lady Titans are back in familiar territory, the Elite 8, after sweeping Northwest Whitfield in three sets Tuesday night (25-21, 25-14, 25-19).

Brenna Mako had 17 kills and Anna MacDonald compiled 24 digs in the match.

BT is seeking its fourth straight state title this year.


Class A-Private

St. Francis 3, Holy Innocents’ 1 — St. Francis continued its playoff run, just the second since 2009, by downing Area 5 champions Holy Innocents’ Tuesday night in the second round (22-25, 25-22, 25-23, 25-13).

Alexis and Sasha Ratliff combined for 48 kills, four aces, and 20 digs in the win.

Mt. de Sales 3, Fellowship Christian 1 — Looking to make their fourth straight appearance in the Elite 8, Fellowship Christian fell to Mt. de Sales for the second time this season, ending the Lady Paladins year.

Fellowship won a close second set, but couldn’t keep up with the Lady Cavaliers throughout the rest of the match (25-16, 27-29, 25-20, 25-21).
