Qualifying begins Aug. 21 for Cumming City Council seats

CUMMING, Ga. — The City of Cumming will hold a municipal election on Tuesday, Nov. 7 for the offices of Mayor and City Council Posts one and two.

Anyone interested in running for any of these posts must pay a qualifying fee of $360 for the office of Mayor or $180 for the office of Council Post one or two. They must also file a notice of candidacy in the Office of the City Clerk at Cumming City Hall between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. beginning Monday, Aug. 21 and concluding on Wednesday, Aug. 23.

To qualify as a candidate for any of the positions, one must be:

• At least 21 years of age,

•A resident of the City of Cumming for atleast one year prior to the date of election,

•And a qualified voter of the City of Cumming.

Candidates must denote which position for which they wish to run (Mayor, Council Post 1 or Council Post 2). The candidate receiving the highest number of votes for each position during the election will be elected to their respective post (no run-off elections will be held), and will serve a four-year term beginning Jan. 1, 2018.
