Old Alabama sinkhole patched

Water main break fixed, permanent repair later

JOHNS CREEK, Ga. – A water main that burst last Thursday morning causing Old Alabama Road to be closed several hours has been repaired and the road “patched.”

Fulton County will schedule a full repair of the road soon. In the meantime, residents traveling along Old Alabama Road should be aware there is slight “bump in the road” where the patch was made between Buice Road and Waits Ferry Road.

When Atlanta-Fulton County workmen arrived around 4:30 a.m. the road was closed and the water main break excavated. A hole of between 20 feet to 30 feet wide was dug to reach the pipe and begin repairs.

Water has been shut off to the nearby subdivisions of Colherne, Stratmor and Hayden’s Walk while repairs were made water was restored Thursday afternoon.

Johns Creek Communications Director Jeff Breslau said the road is marked with “bump” signs and motorists should proceed slowly.
