FORSYTH COUNTY, Ga. — A 38-year-old man was charged July 12 with three counts of first-degree arson after he reportedly set fires in local subdivisions.
Piyushkumar Dayalaji Mistry, of Cumming, was arrested and charged in connection with three fires which occurred within one week.
On July 5, a fire broke out at the Springmonte subdivision clubhouse. On July 8, a fire occurred at the pavilion near the Springmonte subdivision tennis court. And on July 11, a fire was set to a parked car in the Saddlebrook subdivision.
Investigators with the Forsyth County Fire Department Fire Marshal’s Office determined all three fires were arson.
On July 11, a Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office deputy made a traffic stop for an expired tag. During the stop, the deputy noticed items in the car associated with tools used to set fires.
He contacted the Forsyth County Fire Department investigators and a search warrant was issued for Mistry’s home. Items were found there that were linked to the three fires.
Mistry was already being held at the Forsyth County Jail on unrelated charges when he was charged on July 12 for arson.
The investigation is ongoing.
