Forsyth middle schools win regionals, qualify for state science Olympiad

FORSYTH COUNTY, Ga. — Vickery Creek Middle School and South Forsyth Middle School both won their regional tournaments and will be competing at the Georgia Science Olympiad on March 18 at South Cobb High School.

Science Olympiad tournaments are run as a series of 23 events that students compete in as pairs, on topics ranging from astronomy to food science to tower construction.

Vickery Creek won the Oconee County Regional Feb 25. At Oconee, Vickery Creek earned 15 first place medals and 41 medals overall. This is Vickery Creek’s third consecutive year winning their regional and advancing to the state tournament.

South Forsyth won the Georgia State Regional on March 4 and took home eight first place medals and 24 medals overall.

South Forsyth is returning to the state tournament for the second year in a row.

Georgia is one of the most competitive states in science Olympiad, with the top two teams advancing to the national tournament.
